Chapter fifty-two – Bitchy spaghetti

previously on the grey tailI made home-made tomato sauce, a delicious pain in the arse.

still on the Italian cooking front, I prepared a classic one, spaghetti alla puttanesca. now, it might sound like a swear word (and it gets really close) but the origins of this dish are a bit tricky and you can always call it whatever you like.

there’s an interesting tale about my mother and father when they were still dating, after dad ordered it at the restaurant – leaving my naif mommy speechless. 😀

anyways, the thing is really good so let’s get to it without embarrassing mom again – on the internet! 😀

spaghetti alla puttanesca

time: 1 hour

difficulty: * easy

ingredients for 6:

  • 500gr. spaghetti
  • two cloves of garlic
  • hot red peppers
  • parsley
  • basil
  • origano
  • capers
  • black olives
  • diced tomatoes
  • EVO oil
  • salt
  • pepper

pour a lot of EVO oil in a large pan, add all herbs and let them fry for a few minutes. add the sliced garlic, olives and capers, wait a few minutes, then leave to simmer for a quarter of an hour.


add the diced tomatoes and leave to simmer again. prepare the water for the spaghetti, strain al dente and add them to the hot sauce. pan-fry over a high flame and serve straight away.

last but not least, we had another delicious cake delivered straight from Sicily. my goodness, this was the Best. Cake. Ever. Made. life doesn’t get any better than his.

it’s covered with a thick layer of marzipan and icing while inside it’s packed with ricotta, sugar, candied fruits (you can see oranges, pears and cherries), and the greener parts are almond flavoured. we surrender, Sicily won us all! 😀
